I am very honored to have been appointed as Acting President of Barbara Gittings Delaware Stonewall Democrats, as our current President, Joe Daigle, steps down to pursue a seat in the Delaware House of Representatives for the 7th District.
As a founder of the organization, I can say I am very proud of how far we have come in thirteen years, but I am concerned about the future of the organization, and so I approach this task with some trepidation. We cannot rest on our laurels and must continue to move forward to assure that the rights of the LGBT community not be diminished or compromised.
I take on this task with four goals in mind:
- Electing at least three delegates to the national Democratic Convention from Delaware. (Deadline for filing as a candidate is Feb. 29, 2016.
- Having a successful Summer Event ( June 25, 2016 at Mariachi’s) to support pro-equality candidates
- Increasing our membership
- Getting people on the Board who are committed to moving us forward.
We already are in the process of updating our website and had a very enlightening membership meeting on Jan 30, 2016 in which we learned how far the LGBT community has come in fifty years.
I know that we can count on your continued support of our activities, and am confident that we can count on you renewing your membership and volunteering to serve on the Board.
