After Erik graduated from SUNY Geneseo in upstate NYwith a degree in elementary and special education, he joined the AmeriCorps*VISTA program. Erik served his first year with the Colorado Department of Education before landing in Delaware as a VISTA Leader then a first grade special education teacher at Brookside Elementary School.

In 2002, Sen. Dave Sokola recruited Erik to manage his 2002 re-election campaign and Erik went on to coordinate former Governor Minner’s 2004 re-election campaign and manage former Governor Jack Markell’s re-election campaign for State Treasurer in 2006.

Erik served as Chief of Staff for former Speaker of the Delaware State House of Representatives, Robert Gilligan from 2007-2011 and Chairman of the Delaware Democratic Party from 2017-2020. Currently Erik serves as Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer.

Erik serves as board secretary for Kind to Kids and is board member with Kids Count Delaware.

Erik lives on a small farm in Townsend Delaware with his husband Jonathan and children Isaac and Elijah.
