Delaware Stonewall PAC, a non-partisan political action committee supporting the LGBTQ community strongly supports school policies which protect transgender and non binary students.
According to the most recent survey by the Trevor Project, a full 52% of transgender and non binary students have contemplated suicide. The rate is so high because in many cases these students have no support at either their homes or in their schools.
Educators have a responsibility to provide a safe, secure environment for all students and to encourage their participation in school activities. There must be no discrimination of any kind in any activity in which the school is engaged.
We encourage Red Clay, as well as other school Districts, to adopt policies similar to what Red Clay Board Policy 8005 proposes to do.
