14 WILMINGTON AVENUE
REHOBOTH BEACH, DE 19971
FROM 3 TO 5 PM
SENATOR CHRIS COONS
The BGDSD Board is elated to announce the early endorsements of
Claire Snyder-Hall and Peg Green
We heard from them on many issues facing their particular districts and are excited to support their campaigns. I find it particularly exciting to point out both of these democratic candidates are lesbians running for office! Claire is running for the State Senate seat of the 6th District (Dewey, Rehoboth, Lewes, Milton, Harbeson). Peg is running for the State Representative seat of the 35th District (Greenwood, Bridgeville). I encourage you to explore these two candidate’s websites and to get involved with their campaigns.

AND A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL
The Barbara Gittings Stonewall Democrats celebrated our 10th Anniversary Fundraiser at Mariachi’s in Rehoboth Beach on July 20, 2013. The first award went to Senator Karen Peterson with the 2013 Legislator of the Year Award for her continued support of the LGBT community. Also honored was Peter Schott with one of the two LGBT Pioneer Awards for his continued work for LGBT equality, and recognition. The other recipient was Mitch Crane for being the first openly gay man to run for a State wide position, just one of his many firsts to prove to the LGBT community we can and do make a difference.
Congressman John Carney, the keynote speaker, addressed over 100 attendees at our annual fundraiser. He pledged his continued support of the LGBT community and is watching the reaction of congress to the Supreme Court’s decision on DOMA. Our special guest speaker was Congressman Jared Polis the openly gay Congressman from Colorado. Congressman Polis also spoke of the importance of the Supreme Court’s ruling on DOMA and Proposition 8. He gave his account on what he feels are the important issues facing Congress and the LGBT community.
President Norman Spector gave a brief history and listed the many accomplishments by the Barbara Gittings Stonewall Democrats in the past 10 years. Founded in 2003, it took several years and hard work to gain a majority of LGBT friendly Legislators elected. The first major accomplishment was in 2009 with the Hospital Visitation Bill and in the same year Anti-Discrimination protection. In 2011 Delaware Stonewall worked with Equality Delaware for the passage of the Civil Union Bill and with the same group in 2013 the Marriage Equality Act and the Sexual Orientation Bill. President Spector emphasized the importance of protecting our gains by supporting and electing pro LGBT Legislators. This can only happen with the help of the BGDSD members, supporters, and citizens contributing to this organization though the Barbara Gittings Delaware Stonewall Democrats PAC Committee.
